(Bernama)

The people of Sabah are wise and cannot be easily duped by the opposition. Sabahans know that it was only through Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN) that Sabah could enjoy continued development and their interests looked after.

The people of Sabah and Malaysia on the whole, clearly understood that the most important agenda of the government was the National Transformation Programme. So far, many successes have been achieved (by the BN government), give us five more years to double that.

The federal government was aware that Sabah needed more roads, electricity supply, houses and various other facilities. All these could be delivered by the BN which was in line with its ‘Janji Ditepati’ pledge to fulfill the needs of the people wherever they were.

The good relationship between the federal government and the Sabah government was a further boon for efforts to develop the state. This is the fruits of a well established cooperation given by the Sabah government led by Chief Minister Musa Aman in developing Sabah.

If there are differences in opinion, these are discussed in an amicable manner and resolved in the interest of Sabahans. This forms an important basis for the cooperation between the federal government and the state government.

During the recnt visit by the Prime Minister to Sabah, he would ensure that development in Sabah would be at the same pace as states in Peninsular Malaysia. Among efforts taken in this direction was providing huge allocations under the National Transformation Programe.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Barisan Nasional government is now in a stronger position under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. He said if Najib were to give more time before announcing the date of the general election, support for the BN could be further strengthened.

The opposition said that after 55 years of the BN administration, it is time for a change. You should change for the better, but if the change is for something worse? Currently, the opposition was spreading the sentiment of hatred among the people against the government as one of its tactics, said Dr Mahathir.

He said the opposition's priority now was to instil the feelings of hatred against the government and including attacks made against himself who no longer held power. The opposition's move to create resentment among the people would result in its own failure. How many policies have they come up with and has any of it been implemented? He reminded the opposition not to simply talk just for the sake of winning the election.

Dr Mahathir said problems in political parties were normal and were also faced by the opposition.Problems will be there as they are part and parcel of politics, but mooting for an anti-party hopping law is unfair as it hampers one's political freedom," he said on DAP's proposal to amend the Penang state constitution to prevent party-hopping.
